1. Getting involved with ASDA is one way to help ease the stress of dental school.
Although I am enrolled into 23 credits this first semester, I learned that joining ASDA is a great way to be involved with the school and have fun outside of the curriculum. For example, ASDA plans a lot of fun events throughout the year like Mr. Molar, Loupes Fair, and pre-dental weekends.
2. There are a lot of different committees to get involved with.
Our ASDA chapter was nominated and awarded the Ideal ASDA chapter on a national level this past year and I can see why! Marquette’s ASDA has so many different committees like lunch club, book club, health and wellness, and more. These committees plan specific events for student involvement so there is always something fun going on.
3. 90% of dental students across the nation are involved in ASDA.
Since ASDA advocates for dental students across the nation, many people get involved with their schools ASDA chapter. At Marquette, everyone is a member of ASDA simply for being a MUSoD student.
4. Sleep while you can before dental school starts.
As an incoming D1, I would ask the upperclassmen for advice and almost everyone said to “sleep and relax while you can!” As scary as that sounds, everyone also said dental school is well worth all the hard work, lack of sleep and dedication.
5. Everyone at Marquette is really helpful and welcoming.
I felt as though everyone I met during the leadership retreat made an effort to make me feel welcomed into the Marquette family and answered any questions I had about ASDA and dental school in general. Attending this leadership retreat has made me even more excited to start school in just a few weeks!
