ASDA’s Gold Crown awards celebrate outstanding work and achievements by an individual or ASDA chapter during the past year. The Gold Crowns awards recognize ASDA excellence in a variety of categories including media, chapter achievements and the delegate of the year from each of the eleven ASDA districts. In order to be considered for these awards,  a chapter must submit an application that provides a “year in review” of what their chapter accomplished over the past year. The applications leave room for the chapter’s to use creativity when depicting their accomplishments and this year there were many unique applications including a game board, a pop-up book, and Marquette’s flight magazine style application.

The 2018 Gold Crown Awards were presented during a magical awards ceremony at the 2018 ASDA Annual Session at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. It was very inspiring to hear about the incredible ideas and events put on by other ASDA members and chapters that led them to win their Gold Crown award. Although there are too many awards to discuss each individually, here is a recap of some of the highlights. This year, the Gold Crown award for best newsletter was awarded to Washington. For the second year in a row, the Gold Crown award for best website was awarded to Texas-Houston. Marquette ASDA was also a repeat winner and brought home another Gold Crown in the category of Best Use of Chapter Video. In our very own District 7, the Gold Crown award for Delegate of the Year award was given to Dalton Hampton from Kentucky for his dedication to his own ASDA chapter and his hard work on the District 7 cabinet this past year.

Finally, the most exciting moment of the awards ceremony came in the last moments of the ceremony when Marquette ASDA was awarded the highest honor of Ideal ASDA chapter. The Ideal ASDA award is awarded to the ASDA chapter that showed growth through new ideas and displayed excellence in all areas of ASDA this year. We are so excited that the hard work of our dedicated ASDA leaders and members paid off and we hope to use this momentum to continue to have a strong chapter in the future.
