Louisville: The City

Written by Michelle Singapore

Our recent trip to Louisville, Kentucky, spread ASDA fever throughout our chapter. Forty Marquette dental students, along with others from District 6/7, attended events that allowed us to immerse ourselves in the culture of Louisville. Here are the four main highlights of our trip:

  1. Louisville School of Dentistry

Our weekend was aimed at learning more about the other ASDA chapters of District 6/7, and how they structure their organization. The goal is to network and grow as an organized dental community. Our speakers ranged from student leaders, committee members, current doctors, and dental corporations. While most of our meetings were held in the library building, we got an opportunity to tour the Louisville School of Dentistry. Similar to other schools, it consisted of lecture halls, simulations labs, and endless clubs.

     2. Fourth Street Live

If you are looking for a night of music, good food, and dancing, look no further than Fourth Street Live. Located in the heart of downtown, it has become a popular attraction for both tourists and locals. Many dental students went to the famous dueling piano bar and enjoyed a night of singing along to live music. During our visit, there was also a concert in the middle of the street which featured circus performers. Fourth Street Live is a popular entertainment hotspot for all ages.

      3. IceHouse

Ice House offers an amazing, rooftop view of the street and a chance to experience the local culture. The dental students socialized with each other at this location and enjoyed the live music outside. This was certainly a great spot to also play indoor games!

      4. Churchill Down

Last, but not least, the main attraction during our visit to Louisville was attending the Churchill Downs racetrack. It was a thrilling event filled with amazing food and risky bets. We enjoyed our time by watching the races and socializing with our fellow dental students. This event was very entertaining and allowed us to participate in an old Kentucky tradition.

With these experiences, Marquette ASDA is excited to incorporate new ideas from the conference and open more opportunities for the dental students. The only way to truly enjoy all that dental school has to offer is to catch the ASDA fever :)
